I could buy a treadmill and run 18 miles on it like Coach Donnelly, but I would probably quit running altogether if I did.
Instead, I did my first pre-work morning run of the year with a quick 4 miler around Tewksbury just to get the toes wet. It was easier dodging cars at 6AM, but man was it cold! It was about 12 degrees during the 28 minute run. I still can't feel my walnuts. Going to the doctor's tomorrow if it persists.
My goal is to go for some longer morning runs, like running to work (11 miles), or running to bed (11 feet). It's been over a year since I last ran to work, but that's mainly due to the fact that someone from building management decided to put a keypad lock on the gym door at work without telling anyone the combo.
It wasn't until today that I finally managed to get in touch with someone that knew the combo: 1234# (christ).
My ultimate plan is to complete the Tewksbury-Burlington-Fenway tri-fecta come Jan 18th, the first night of classes for Rachel down at BU.
That double should give me about 24 miles for the day, split between a morning 11 mile run and an evening 13 mile run. I gotta get in the doubles in order to build up to 80 miles per week during this Boston training cycle.

"Jan 5th, 2011 - I'm so sick of running and dodging cars at night that I've decided to call it quits."
Oh you clever devil, I see what you did there. For a moment, you had me thinking you were never going to run again. Oh boy, I won't need any coffee to wake up this morning, you gave me quite a scare!
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I wait until the site has a 20% off sale, but even at full price I bet your walnuts will think it's money well spent.
You can get probably get $5 off with coupon code ACCESS, or check with a ski shop to see if they have walnut protective gear.
