Out With The Old...

...In with the New Bedford Half.

This is going to be my only other race between now and the Boston finish line, so I'm going to make the most of it and see where I stack up.

The goal is to break 1:20 and/or kick Mike "GBTC" Shanahan's butt for jumping from the GLRR ship. I know we're sinking, but sheez, at least let the women, children, and chicken off first.

(You've been naughty)

Me and the New Bedford Half go way back. Ten years to be exact.

The story that I love to tell, and the one that people are sick of hearing, dates back to 2001 when I ran my first road race. Yep. I ran New Bedford, one of the tougher half's around, as my first true test of pure stupidity.

Training? Pffffttt. For running club losers.

I still don't know what the hell I was thinking, but I ran the 2001 New Bedford half with a bunch of my idiot friends as our one and only training run before banditting Boston one month later. Sort of like this year.

My claim to fame at that year's New Bedford half was that I left a piece of my soul out on the course around Mile 1, and then limped over the final monster hill and into the finish at a blistering 11:06 per mile pace!

I can honestly say that some of the people that finished ahead of me that year have probably since passed away, due to natural causes, at ripe old ages. Even Fil might have had a chance against me that year (not really).

I ended up running what would have been an awesome marathon time....

(Who the hell's that?!)

As you can see, I quickly changed my name after this race in order to avoid further embarrassment.

This time I was a little bit more prepared based on my overall performance and how I felt throughout the run.

(What a difference a decade makes)

I'm looking forward to this weekend and running one of the best road races around as my final tune-up for Boston 2:49:59.

Wait until you see what I have up, and over, my sleeve on race day.
